The Rise of GLP-1 Shots – A 'Bottle of Lies'

How did we get here? In all of history I doubt anyone ever said “I want the slowest path to my goal”, and here we are expecting instant satisfaction from everything. Are we wrong?

We live in a world that’s all about shortcuts, fast results, and ‘one-and-done’ solutions. But here’s the hard truth: if you didn’t gain those extra 20 pounds overnight, the process of releasing them won’t be a quick flick of a switch, either.

And yes, I know that’s tough to swallow. But here’s the flip side: the slower path isn’t a punishment; it’s where the magic happens. Think of all the things you’ll learn along the way—and how those lessons will spill over into every area of your life. It’s like getting bonus prizes while you’re working toward your goal.

Let’s use your gut as an example. When you detox and bring it back to a healthy balance, the ripple effects are huge. You start feeling more clear-headed, and with that clarity, your relationships improve. With better relationships, new doors open up, and suddenly, opportunities are showing up like never before. It’s the slow-and-steady path that’s loaded with treasures Big Pharma can never offer you.

But that need for instant gratification? It’s got us all scrambling for quick fixes and, in the process, missing out on the real rewards. Big Food and Big Pharma come in, whispering their promises of convenience, taste, and a pill for every ill. They’re not just random players—they’re tag-teaming you into a system that keeps you paying to stay sick. Foods that make you crave more, pills that mask symptoms and pile on side effects (not to mention extra pounds), and then—you guessed it—more pills. It’s a setup, plain and simple. And yeah, you fell for the dog and pony show—but it’s not your fault.

So here’s the question: do you have to keep buying the foods that make your day easier but your body sicker? Or is there another way?

Here’s what I want you to remember: you can make your own GLP-1, naturally.

What is GLP-1 and where did it go…

The latest buzz word in weight loss is GLP-1, short for glucagon-like peptide-1. This hormone, produced naturally in the gut, is a behind-the-scenes powerhouse when it comes to regulating blood sugar, controlling appetite, and even managing weight. GLP-1 sends signals to the pancreas to release insulin after eating, and it slows down digestion to help you feel full longer.

Here’s a quick science breakdown on how it works:

First we have blood sugar regulation. Picture this: you’re having a meal or snack, and sugar levels in your blood start to rise based on what you’ve eaten. Your friendly GLP-1 acts like a manager, noticing the sugar spike and sending a message to insulin that it’s time to kick into gear. Insulin flexes its muscles and helps cells absorb the extra glucose from your blood.

When GLP-1 isn’t functioning properly, though, blood sugar control can become an uphill battle. Insulin doesn’t get the message to activate, and glucagon (a hormone that raises blood sugar) doesn’t get the memo to hold back. The result? Blood sugar imbalance—too little insulin, too much glucagon—creates a perfect storm for weight gain, fat storage, insulin resistance, and even type 2 diabetes.

Next we have the task of appetite control. GLP-1 keeps your appetite in check by sending hunger and fullness signals to the brain. After you eat, you WANT your brain to feel satisfied, curbing the urge to continue eating. At the same time, GLP-1 acts like a traffic cop, slowing down food’s journey through your digestive system. This slower process keeps you feeling fuller for longer and quiets hunger cues.

In today’s world of processed foods that deliver instant dopamine hits, it’s even tougher to resist snacking or oversized portions. And as we rely more on these tempting treats, we lose our GLP-1 helpers. For many of us,our brain isn’t getting the full signal and it's like someone defunded the food police of our digestive system. Now, with our traffic cop off duty, we’re left with the drive-thru signals blaring "Eat more!" every hour on the hour.

When GLP-1 is doing its job, blood sugar remains stable, and your appetite is naturally regulated, making weight management a smooth process. Stable blood sugar levels mean less excess glucose turning into fat, and feeling satisfied means you’re not fighting cravings or reaching for unhealthy snacks. GLP-1 naturally helps suppress appetite and balances energy levels—a powerful ally for weight control without the struggle.

So where did your GLP-1 go?

Think of it as a Rubik's Cube with a mix of factors. Aging often takes the blame, but since everyone ages and not everyone struggles with low GLP-1, it’s not the full story.

At the top of the list of factors robbing you of your natural GLP-1 we have dietary choices, poor gut health, chronic stress, and insulin resistance. Unfortunately, clients often come to me with a soup mix of all of these factors. My clients aren’t unique, this soup mix is something a high percentage of women are walking around with. It’s this mix that creates the perfect storm that hinders the body’s ability to keep GLP-1 at effective working levels.

Forget Pfizer – Your Body Can Make Its Own GLP-1

Let’s be fair. Women wear a lot of hats in life. And often, that means neglecting their own self-care—putting aside what they need to stay healthy for the sake of everyone else. They don’t even realize what they’ve sacrificed until consequences are staring back at them in the mirror, or when those favorite pants don’t fit anymore.

Change is possible, and it’s no wonder that instant gratification sounds appealing—it's been drilled into us from all sides. Cue Big Pharma with its shiny "quick fix": drugs like Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro—all of which are pharmaceutical versions of GLP-1. Originally, these drugs were created to support those with type 2 diabetes.

These medications mimic the natural effects of GLP-1 in the body. However, without a proper plan, lifestyle changes, and real habit shifts, it’s a slippery slope that can quickly turn from helpful to harmful.

The GLP-1 shot may drastically reduce your appetite, leading to weight loss, but it can also cause nutrient deficiencies if not balanced with good nutrition. Rapid weight loss often brings fatigue, muscle loss, and hormonal changes along for the ride. And since poor gut health might be part of why you're looking for weight loss in the first place, the gastrointestinal side effects of these shots can leave you surprisingly grateful that the office bathroom is close by.

The long-term effects of these drugs are only just starting to surface, and it’s not painting the picture of a healthy, vibrant woman. There are natural ways to support your body's GLP-1 production—and I encourage you to consider them seriously before opting for anything else.

Skip the Prescription...Harness Your Body’s Natural GLP-1 Power

Let me start by saying it's not your fault if you’re here today needing to lose 20, 50, or even 100 pounds. It’s not because you’re weak or lack willpower. You’ve been duped. The food industry and Big Pharma are essentially in bed together, prioritizing profit over our health. And if you’re hurt in the process? No one in those boardrooms cares. It’s time we each start taking responsibility for our choices and our health.

I won’t go on a full rant about the food industry here (saving that for another day), but know this: highly processed foods and toxic oils have hijacked our bodies' ability to make GLP-1. They’re destroying our gut microbes, creating a negative ripple effect that compromises our health at a cellular level. You eat these foods, they wreak havoc internally, and when you’ve had enough of not feeling like you used to feel, you turn to your doctor wanting something to help you NOW.

Then, the cycle begins: you take the prescription, feel a little better, but then—boom—there’s a side effect. Maybe you’re prescribed another medication. It’s a vicious cycle we see every day. All the while, this pattern is disrupting your GLP-1 production. So, what can you do to take back control and start harnessing your body’s natural GLP-1 power?

First and foremost, ditch the highly processed foods. Reducing—and eventually eliminating—these is critical. I understand if that feels overwhelming. If that is a huge step from where you are today, make a middle choice. Start smaller by swapping out one processed item each week. I cover more tips on this in my Whole Foods Lifestyle Guide.

Next up: fiber first. Adding fiber at the beginning of your meals is a game-changer for healing your gut. Start with a small salad, or any fiber-rich option, before the rest of your meal. Natural fiber is best, but a supplement can help (it’s better than no fiber, just check ingredients.) Fiber feeds the gut microbes responsible for producing GLP-1 and has a bonus: it helps break down estrogen properly, which is key for most midlife women.

Birth control pills are another hidden player in this story. Lots of women have been on them and didn’t realize how they disrupt gut health, especially the microbes that help us absorb nutrients efficiently. It’s worth being mindful of this as you work to improve your digestion and nutrient absorption.

Protein should be the next focus. While specific amounts vary (1 gram per pound of your ideal body weight is a good goal if you feel like counting), the main point is getting protein in each meal.

After fiber and protein, add healthy carbs. This balanced approach—fiber, protein, and carbs—is a natural, holistic way to support GLP-1 production.

Finally, eat mindfully and slowly, move your body daily, and prioritize quality sleep. For a full, sustainable plan to bring these habits together, check out my proven Balanced Body Breakthrough Program.

Step Off the Big Pharma Bandwagon and Empower Yourself!

You're smart, and you're searching for a solution that truly lets you feel like you again—the vibrant, energetic version of yourself you've been missing. The best, safest approach for you and your family is to take control of what goes into your body. Start with food, then by making informed choices that help you avoid Big Pharma’s weight-loss shortcuts. They’re profiting off what you don’t know about your own body and how it’s naturally equipped to thrive and heal.

Sure, the allure of a “quick fix” is powerful. Many people don’t fully trust themselves to go it alone. It’s easy to make good choices for a day, but it’s the consistent daily effort that trips us up. That’s exactly why I founded the Consistency Collective—a virtual group program designed to guide you in choosing small, doable actions, tracking your progress, and consciously tracking to see if they’re making a real difference. The group accountability is what turns talk into action, giving you the support to stay on track and make lasting change.

The way I see it, one of two things might be going through your head right now. First, maybe you’re ready to dive in and take control, and if that’s the case, the Consistency Collective is probably calling your name. It’s here to support you as you make those real changes—food, lifestyle, habits—all the pieces that shape your future.
