Feel Better Now - Without Another Diet

So, the event of the year, at least in your life, just got announced and excitement is bubbling through you. But then you deflate with the nagging thought of, what on earth will you wear? Suddenly, the joy you had is overshadowed by the anxiety of how you’re going to feel in whatever you choose.

I’ve been there too - nothing fits anymore, waistbands biting into skin, avoiding shapeware for the chance to breathe, and that heart breaking moment contemplating the next size up. It’s the universal struggle, and it’s telling you it’s time to do something different. What’s going to be the NEXT diet, since the last seven didn’t help you get healthy again.

What if your next diet wasn’t a punishment? What if it was enjoyable, energizing, and satisfying all while giving you results that didn’t vanish six months from now?

It’s not a pipe dream!

And it’s not going to require a bunch of pills that you have no idea the repercussions of taking. With the right input your body will work as it was designed to work. You deserve a diet that considers how you want to live and thrive for years to come, because if you don’t lose weight the way you intend to live, you’re setting yourself up to fall into past habits and behaviors that will boomerang the weight right back.

There's a Radiant Life Waiting for You

I’ve personally been down the rabbit hole of the quick fix options. Been there, done that, way too many times to count. What I found and have made it my mission to share with other women is that it’s not just about losing pounds, it’s about shedding old beliefs. Life has so many challenges at midlife, this is one I want to take off your plate.

You deserve a plan that fits seamlessly into your life, because, trust me, that goal line you’ve been striving for in the past, it’s not the finish line.

Now, let’s get down to business. This personalized plan is not cookie-cutter. It’s as unique as you are. It’s not a boring diet, it’s a lifestyle that you’ll adore. Think about your past diets, I bet they missed the mark when you think about the long haul. They typically come with restrictions that you’re only willing to follow until you reach the goal line. But remember, the goal line isn’t the finish line.

So, let’s break this down, and feel better now, with these 5 steps for creating your personalized plan.

Step One: Why Do I Feel Like Crap?

Clarifying your goals and understanding why they matter is step one. I bet your first thought is a goal number that you’d like to see on the scale. I’ll let you have that as one goal, but the real magic comes from having at least 10 reasons for why it’s important for you to know how to change your lifestyle to be healthy.

How will your life have an upgrade because of the changes? It’s about the feelings and experiences that are going to be different from the current path you’re on. Just going for the number on the scale doesn’t set you up for lifestyle change after you reach the number and are suffering from dieting fatigue. Plus, there will be days that you don’t care about the number on the scale, those days are when these other 9 reasons are going to step up and keep you on track, to the finish line.

Reach out to me if you’re hitting a wall with coming up with your 10 reasons.

Step Two: Help, I Don’t Know What to Eat?

Now comes the fun part, you get to play investigator and scientist, diving into the research pool. We can’t just guess at what foods work with your body and which ones don’t. That’s what a cookie-cutter plan does. You’re not looking for something that worked for your neighbor, you want to know how to make yourself feel better.

This starts with curiosity about your past diets. I was lucky enough to have a bunch of past diet failures to pull information from, maybe you are too. You start by knowing what foods you enjoyed as part of the plan and which ones felt like a punishment. Look at the timing of eating, what was easy to follow and what were you counting the days to get to quit. Make yourself a pros and cons list of all your past attempts.

Helpful Hint: Instead of eating less, eating better is a better option.

Step Three: How to be consistent…

Life works better with rules. We like knowing what day our paycheck will hit our bank account and that every week has a Saturday. These boundaries give us comfort. Where things have gotten wonky with food is that we’ve been conditioned to think that when we have a tummy ache, bloating, headache, runny nose, achy joints, it’s just a natural part of life, especially as you get older. That’s a lie.

Our general discomforts are due to intolerances and reactions to the foods and actions that we’ve chosen to be consistent with. Step three is looking at what foods don’t jive with your body. I know you may thing you love something, and you couldn’t do without it, but when you’ve connected the dots and can see that ‘X’ food makes you feel ‘Y’ and you don’t want to feel ‘Y’, it’s so much easier to say “no.”

A full body detox with a gradual reintroduction of foods is how I recommend clients make these kinds of connections. That’s why my Body Reset Program is a bonus with the Consistency Coaching add-on in my Balanced Body Breakthrough Program.

Step Four: Breaking the Chains of Food Beliefs

Sometimes we’ve trained ourselves to eat not because of hunger but because of the feelings it brings up. Emotional eating is an example, as well as eating out of boredom. I’d guess you can relate to having certain foods for certain occasions or celebrations. The food choices are wrapped up in the meaning of the event. This isn’t all bad, but when the food choices are bad for you, it becomes a roadblock for your healthy lifestyle changes.

When you take the time to examine the internal beliefs you may find that the craving you have is not for the food itself but the feelings that it triggers. Shifting these beliefs by recognizing them and knowing other ways to achieve the feelings you desire can be transformational.

This is a step that you may find journaling to be helpful for letting feelings and food triggers come to the surface and/or the support of a Balanced Body Guide like me can be priceless.

Step Five: Flexible Dieting that Evolves with Every Bite

This is a marathon, not a sprint. Your plan evolves as you learn more about yourself and as your body changes. It is possible that by making changes that allow your body to heal from the inside out, what makes you feel yucky today and you choose to eliminate, may become tolerable in small doses in the future.

In step five you’ll have a baseline established and a relationship with your body that allows you to recognize when something is off. You can then rinse and repeat this process once you know the importance of consistency.

Balanced, Beautiful, and Owning Your Breakthrough

It’s time to stop thinking about a ‘diet’ as a fixed segment of your life that you’ll function according to some laid out strict rules. I’d prefer you to see it as making mindful choices, embracing consistency, and adapting as you go. I’m not just your guide, I’m your biggest cheerleader, here to remind you that you don’t have to walk this path alone. You deserve to live your best life, and you don’t have to figure it out on your own.
